Something that fascinates me is low relief integrated in a picture field, ex. in some medieval artwork. It's a little like pastiglia, for the technique curious, and I've never really tried it before now.
This is a detail of my in-progress predella. I forgot to photograph the original under-drawing, maybe via emotional exhaustion. My mother's hand was the last of her I touched, and I guess the first too, so my familiar painting process evolved. #Art #Painting #Kunst #traditionalart

Heute etwas Hintergrund zu meiner Praxis, zwei frühere Gemälde, die ich vor langer Zeit verloren hatte. Man erkennt mein Interesse an ruhiger Gruppendynamik, insbesondere Generationenverbindungen, entwickelt durch vielfältige Malschichten.
In dieser Phase habe ich die ganze Bildschicht zuerst mit Pigment bedeckt und dann die Linien mit spitzer Feder gekratzt. #art #Kunst #painting

These details show stages of the left niche flanking the predella, which is a portrait of my daughter.
In the red-green wash phase you can see gesso dots filling in holes left by gentle adaptation of an old pouncing (Punzierung) technique.
One challenge for work like this is to give as much care to tints and shades as you might to reliance on contour lines. Also, connecting at pace to the subject. 🎨

Charcoal drawing and under painting in progress. This is the right niche flanking the predella.
Underpainting pigment is red lake + oilve green + linseed oil, which I love because you can adjust red-green for different types of brown. The gems are now embedded into the panel and gesso layer. Mom is starting to look back, I think. I hope. 🥲 #Art #painting #traditionalart
