oh, plants, gardening.
equity and accessibility.
cmmi level 5 dev nerdiness.

I walk our cat on a leash, so yeah.

Ah, early fall. That time when I refocus my efforts for the next few months to walking in front of my Nest thermostat so it doesn't go into Eco mode.
I am approaching the tipping point of having more years of free credit monitoring than I will be alive. I mean, if you're going to hold my information and then have someone steal it, at least do me a favor and look it up when I'm registering so I don’t have to type it in again.

For a letter that is being sent, when adding a QR code for a survey in a mailed letter, should some other sort of accessible option be included as well for the URL? I'm not sure what would happen to the letter when it's received. Is it scanned in? Read with a magnifier?

From this day hence, I hereafter am referring to AI as A1, as that's how my mom says it from reading on the interwebs.

I get so much value out of hci.social in how many ways it has changed how I approach my work ... but ... the irony of a 500 char limit on an HCI instance. I mean, we're all playing a game, and I get the rules, but, well you know ... #yesterdaysrules

Join a HotTopics Webinar on Web Accessibility for All – March 1, 2023

Early last year, more than 180 disabilities rights organizations wrote to the Department of Justice (DoJ) noting that “When websites and applications are inaccessible, people with disabilities cannot apply for jobs, work efficiently, attend school, access healthcare, schedule a ride, shop, find public health information, apply for public benefits, and more.” Now, the DoJ’s Civil Rights Division is finally poised to act. ACM's US Technology Policy Committee (USTPC) will host a HotTopics webinar session, "…With Liberty and Web Accessibility for All: Getting the DoJ’s Upcoming Rulemaking Right" on Wednesday, March 1, at 5 pm EST. Join a panel of ACM experts as they discuss what the new rules should look like whether they can they be crafted to well serve both user and business interests, what assistive technologies, present and future, must they enable, and more.

I just got notice that MS has an "Ability Summit" tomorrow, but a series of the noted attendees have Accessibility or Inclusive in their title. Is Ability a subtle rebranding, marketing speak, or are people trying to switch to that? I find solid content following Mastodon #accessibility and #a11y.

“But at the end of the day this means taking more time, spending more resources and making less money. Who’s going to do that without legislation?” @timnitGebru in the WSJ

Throughout her career, Dr. Gebru has brought incredible clarity, foresight and determination, even when she was pushing against powerful interests from the inside and even when she was pushed out by those same powerful interests. Thank you, @timnitGebru, for all that you do!

I like to garden and I, like many, think of hedge trimmers as something overmarketed. It's to the point that homeowners begin to think all pruning is done with hedge trimmers, when in fact, there are only a few situations where hedge trimmers can be considered appropriate without "conforming the plant to the tool." I will let the world draw their own conclusions and comparisons. #HedgeTrimmerGPT

I wish an LLM's corpus was focused on what's out-of-focus. That they were built *first* for the under-represented and disadvantaged populations.
