J.R.R. Tolkien's Ainulindalë — Evan Palmer Comics

Adapted from Tolkien's amazing words, the first chapter of The Silmarillion spans the mythological creation of Middle-Earth and its gods. Told here with loving care and reverence in 54 full color pages. Original story by Tolkien, not owned by Evan Palmer. I was interviewed about the book &nbs

Since Mastodon saw its initial popularity circa 2017, I've noticed that most users and those reporting on it either don't think about the Fediverse as anything more than Mastodon, or treat its history as beginning with Eugen Rochko and the beginning of Mastodon. In fact, Mastodon is the latest in a long line of federated social networks going at least back to Identi.ca, and though I wasn't around for all of it, I find this history pretty interesting. (Thread; boosts welcome!)

“We've arranged a society based on #science and technology, in which nobody understands anything about science and technology. This combustible mixture of ignorance and power, sooner or later, is going to blow up in our faces.”

We’re finishing up an overhaul of the sign-up experience in our iOS and Android apps, hopefully it can go live next week, I know the Android app hasn’t had a public release for a while but the beta already has editing and upload progress and a bunch of other nice things. A lot more in the pipeline for the future.

Global climate wall: ecofascists (the one doing the polluting) and climate migrants (the ones feeling the pinch)

Attached: 1 image Have you heard of the “Global Climate Wall?” I stumbled across this report by @[email protected] while doing some research on #climateChange #migration and militarized borders. The report shows that the countries most responsible for perpetuating climate breakdown in vulnerable countries (by emitting roughly half of the world’s GHGs)—are also currently militarizing their borders against the migrants they are inadvertently forcing to leave their homes. #EnvironmentalJustice

Seoul shut down a six-lane highway, turning it into a park

Motorists flipped out — they predicted it would create horrible traffic jams, if they suddenly had one less major route

Nope: traffic in the city overall *sped up*

This terrific piece in Scientific American explains why — via “Braess’s Paradox”: https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/removing-roads-and-traffic-lights/

Economics: Humans only value things monetarily.
Sociology: Uh, I don't ...
Economics: Humans are always rational and value is calculated by a complex inner calculus.
Sociology: Uh, Psy, can you help?
Psychology: That's not how humans ...
Economics: ALSO MY SYSTEM WILL GROW EXPONENTIALLY FOREVER!!

Mi mejor amiga se suicidó hace 6 años

Intentó superarlo, convivir con ello, ilusionarse. Avanzó. Llegó a ser feliz, disfrutaba de las pequeñas cosas. Siempre sonreía.
