Mountains are like dogs: every one is the best one in the world, but your own is the bestest.

Every time I hike, I remember why I love them so much.

The highest mountains of the Appenine range on the Italian peninsula (excluding Mount Etna on Sicily) is the Gran Sasso range in the Abruzzo region, here pictured from the hills of the Teramo province.

Main peak is the Corno Grande (2912m), then to the right: Corno Piccolo, Pizzo Intermesoli and the bulk of Monte Corvo, all above 2500 meters. To the left there are more mountains, here only Monte Aquila and Monte Brancastello. Picture from 2015.
