And while I enjoy freedom, even a great deal of freedom, a ruleset makes a helpful starting point in this sort of thing. I hope Mastodon will put something together along those line.
USEnet seemed utterly anarchic on the surface, but there were a bunch of pretty set in stone rules about how and why newsgroups got set up and staying on topic, etc.
It's like USEnet, but anyone can spin up their own node at any time and you need a separate login for it. That's just insane.
I honestly think the topography of Mastodon is going to kill it faster than anything else.
TBH, I'm waiting to find forums for things that will make me regret singing up for this service.
Also, I want to have an add-on that changes the TOOT button to a FERNT button.
