We wanted to do some good with whatever we earn on #Bandcamp Friday, so today we’re donating all of our profits to RAICES.
Less important: our debut album Leave Your Light On is also available for the first time in a very long time.

Aloud is, in the parlance of our times, a rock n’ roll band. Since our founding in Boston in 2002 we’ve released 6 albums, toured coast-to-coast several times, and even landed music in a few films. We’ve called Los Angeles home since 2017. Aloud's latest album Apollo 6 is out now. New EP Observer Affect out now.
At the start of the year, I set a goal for myself to write (and post) five short stories.
Set the first one free yesterday, and feeling pretty good about my progress getting the ol'
#writing muscle in fighting shape.
Based on me actually mishearing that lyric for years and the general vibe of my experience as a teenager in Miami. Anyway, there it is, friends.

A short story from Sunshine State / Either of those outcomes, in a stretch limousine with impalpably depressed teenagers and bone-dry decanters lining the shelves, meant death. No, worse than death. Worse than the first sphere of Hell. Worse than this radio station. El carajo.
Struggled a bit with this one, but arbitrary deadlines must be adhered to. Leaning into weird, freewheeling, and curmudgeonly it is.
Piece on walking away from Instagram and Prime.
I don’t listen to this record all the time, but it’s permanently lodged in the base of my skull. This soundtracked my early years in Boston. It takes me right back to strolling through Allston in the snow every time. Monster record from an unsung band. #music
2025 reading is off to a slow start, but a start nonetheless. Quite enjoying this one.
This one is hitting that quit your job and hide out in a beat up cabin with nothing but a typewriter, a bottle of booze, and a portable record player nerve. You know the nerve I’m talking about.
Hello hello, Mastodon…s? Popping in to say hi. I’ve come to recognize and accept that microblogging is very much not for me. So I don’t believe I’ll be active here much.
However, I have restarted my personal newsletter and will be sending out dispatches at least twice a month. (I’ll try to remember to share here, since Mastodon seems cool.)
My latest is on the L.A. fires: https://open.substack.com/pub/henrybe/p/060-is-it-always-this-hot?r=153mr&utm_medium=ios
Knowing my picayune assortment of effects shares the same fate as anything hoarded by the incurably affluent comforts me. In the meantime, should the Sunset Fire deem my things to be unworthy kindling, I swear to stop putting off my digitize-all-the-things project.
