hey sorry I missed your text, I am processing a non-stop 24/7 onslaught of information with a brain designed to eat berries in a cave

I am on a secret mission today, but now we can make it public:

Happy 65th birthday, Martin Odersky! Darja, Nada, Philipp, @heather and a bunch of co-conspirators threw Martin a surprise birthday party @ EPFL 🎉

@lars happy birthday martin! 🎂 @heather

I gotta say, it’s been really refreshing to
(1) attend a conference not in my immediate field, and
(2) not have to give a talk/organize/etc

Out of the two, I think (1) is the bigger contributor to how refreshing/exciting the experience is

Faculty should do this more often

Welp, I suppose I’ll start using the toot horn again

First order of business:
I’m headed to the first conference in YEARS that I’m going to *just attend* and not speak at, not organize, etc

It’s a weird feeling

If I know folks attending MLSys this year, hit me up ☺️

Also, people who know me know I grew up in South Florida on boats and whatnot

So it’s an extremely weird feeling to be here and to have my whole tech/science life colliding with 🏝️☀️🚤

Florida has always been an explicitly not scientific/not tech place to me

I should also note that I’m coming out of a cave… A pandemic-into-motherhood-into-family-health-stuff cave

So I’ve been out of the Twitter/conference/etc circuit for a bit 🫤

Please be kind ❤️

30 years after Nancy Hopkins’ finding of lab space inequity at MIT, this Oceanographic institute finds the same. Times need to be changing faster ☹️

Could every institution please do an analysis proactively?

Women scientists at famed oceanography institute have half the lab space of men

The gap can’t be “explained away” by funding or seniority, says Scripps Institution of Oceanography report

If people in Congress were generally young enough to have daycare-aged children, the whole national daycare shitshow would be fixed in a day

Change my mind
