@JoeGrowling I'm all for fighting back
@JoeGrowling It's inevitable after nearly 14 years of Tories and their destruction of the country and mishandling of the pandemic and everything that's come after. I'd sort of reconciled myself to 68 (though that may be a push) but 70+ no thanks.
@aallan One of my children was reading this at about 7:30 this morning (and then had to go to school).
New home! My old server (artisan.chat) was unexpectedly closing. Fingers crossed that I've followed the processes correctly and I'm now following the same people as before and everyone's been automatically updated to follow me here!
Anyway - to make up for all of that - here's a photo of a gel print I made yesterday (aka playing with paint and ink)

So the blog is back up. I had to do a little bodging in the end and a decision on the whether the last 5% was worth more effort (it wasn't - so most of my posts are missing their original featured/banner photo).

My "Recent Posts" list doesn't really hint that this is a mostly textiles blog. My latest post (and first proper post in nearly a year) is entitled "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?" I think this one has been brewing for a while: https://blogging.hazelpurls.co.uk/2023/05/14/do-androids-dream-of-electric-sheep/

Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep – Hazel Purls

"(W)hat we are witnessing is the wealthiest companies in history (Microsoft, Apple, Google, Meta, Amazon …) unilaterally seizing the sum total of human knowledge that exists in digital, scrapable form and walling it off inside proprietary products, many of which will take direct aim at the humans whose lifetime of labor trained the machines without giving permission or consent."

AI machines aren’t ‘hallucinating’. But their makers are

Tech CEOs want us to believe that generative AI will benefit humanity. They are kidding themselves

@coatilex @pluralistic Yes, my phone last had an update Feb '21. It's over 2 years since an update! But the phone works perfectly - excellent battery life - small crack in screen (but not where it makes any difference). Such a waste.
@stavvers @neilhimself Do we need a "not AI" badge for genuine content?

This is schoolboy stuff.

This argument basically amounts to “but it wasn’t just me”.

Pathetic.

Solidarity with the UCU and all striking today ✊

#SongForTheStrike – Bread and Roses, sung by Bronwen Lewis. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BiiKgST_G2Q

This song is often associated with the 1912 Bread and Roses Strike in Lawrence, MA. The strike among textile mill workers ended 111 years ago yesterday with a pay-rise of up to 20%.

Although its associated with the strike the song/poem by James Oppenheim predates it, inspired by a 1911 speech by suffragist Helen Todd.
