Improving Privacy Using Pay-to-EndPoint (P2EP)

Attendees of a community work group recently set themselves the goal of improving basic transaction privacy in Bitcoin, the aim being to define a way to defe...

Starting to see a bunch of people following me from @nvk 's https://bitcoinhackers.org instance. Excited to see Bitcoiners spreading out across the fediverse and seeing that this crazy federated idea---like another crazy idea they may be more familar with---really does work in practice.

It either went up, or it went down, or it stayed the same.

Bitcoiners: consider using a Content Warning (the CW in the Mastodon web interface) on your price-related toots. That way technologists who don't care about the price don't have to read your text or see your charts. I'll reply to this toot with an example.

Also, it'd be cool if we could agree on a specific keyword for price toots so that people who *really* don't like them can filter them out without having to unfollow people. In Twitter tradition, I suggest the $BTC "cash tag".

Step one for setting up my own Fediverse instance is now complete. Still need to setup a reverse proxy and TLS to actually use it for anything.

Things I learned:

- Was pretty easy (about 30 minutes so far)
- Works fine on a $5 VPS
- Pleroma defaults to 5,000 character toot limit (but >500 won't be relayed to default Mastodons)
- Although turned off by default, you can even access the instance's public timelines over the Gopher protocol (!) https://blog.soykaf.com/post/gopher-support-in-pleroma/

The old Schildbach Bitcoin Wallet for Android also lets you use your own node + Tor. Unfortunatly no support for SegWit, BIP39, hardware wallets, etc, so I don't recommend anymore. Here is a guide I made last year:

Emergency support email from my VPS provider. Or is it? Notice the X-mailer header is set to a line from the rickrolling song... 🤔

(Seriously, it's legit but it made me laugh.)

@chrispalasz @NicolasDorier Mastodon lets you indicate that a particular account is a bot so people know what they're getting into by following it, and there are socially-enforced rules for good bot behavior. If a bot is just spamming you, then you have the regular Filter tools available on the Settings page (including blocking the whole host that the bot came from), or you can complain to your instance admin.
