Wow, Thor (PirateSoftware) fucking sucks. He's one of these self-important guys with a large fragile ego, a mic, and an audience, who talks VERY convincingly and confidently about things, regardless of his actual knowledge. Their opinion is the final word. And if you challenge or criticize him, he puts you in his crosshairs.
But now he's talking shit about Ross Scott?! (Ross's Game Dungeon, Freeman's Mind, etc.) And spreading disinformation about his efforts to preserve gaming?!
Unlike Thor, Ross has always come off as one of the most good-natured, funniest, most genuine personalities online. And his efforts in trying to kick start a global gaming preservation effort are nothing less than phenomenal.
And here's Thor completely misrepresenting that effort to his audience, and besmirching ROSS'S character?
Oh, hell no.
It's funny, because I followed the PirateSoftware stream for a while, interested in the gamedev discussion. But even independently of videos like this, or other rumors around him (cheating, being an asshole), I dropped him at some point over the ego.
I always wondered if I'd been too hasty, but clearly I made the right call before even getting into the nastier of the allegations against him.
Sometimes, I receive questions which leave both me, and the person asking, bamboozled.
> Your website loads so quickly! What CDN do you use?
There is no CDN. It is just really small and simple, mostly text.
> Sure, but is that Cloudflare, or...?
None. It is a tiny website, just a few kilobytes per page, on a tiny server, at my home, connected to the Internet via my ISP, Andrews & Arnold.
> But are you / they in the cloud?
No. The webserver is in Newbury, in my garage.
> Neil, please can you pass my questions to your technical person? I don't think you understand, your website cannot be in your home. It must be in the cloud or have a CDN.
*Neil puts on glasses and false nose and moustache*
