A Skynet update:

As of yesterday, GPT-3 (or is it 4?) is part of Bing, for which there is now a waitlist.
Google is scrambling to keep up, with a press conference scheduled for today and a release “in the coming weeks”.
Meta is feeling left out.

Popcorn, please. https://blog.miljko.org/2023/01/27/competing-our-way.html

Competing our way to Skynet

So let me see if I have this straight: OpenAI and Microsoft have a partnership, with Microsoft all-in on integrating aritifical intelligence into its products and developing it further. Google/Alphabet has its own AI programs — some of them mind-blowing — which are bound to increase now that ChatGPT is out with potential to destroy the value of the one thing Google still does well: searching the internet. Facebook/Meta has only some embarassing failures to show for their efforts, for now, but one can expect some rearrangement of priorities once the company’s shareholders see what being all-in on AI has done to $MSFT.

@mttkng I barely use macOS no longer (currently Windows + WSL) but I think this HN thread might be of help:

If you want something robust, consider using rclone or kopia with any supported cloud storage provider eg Amazon S3, Backblaze B2, Azure, or Google cloud:

@bigiain @pieceofthepie @elonjet In a week there’s an alternative community database, so that doesn’t even make sense. Only way Elon could get his way is by lobbying the faa to not mandate transponders or similarly.
@pieceofthepie @elonjet I’m not sure what netjet is supposed to gain when a sizable chunk of the community will leave. Activitypub is volunteer developed, maintained, and hosted, but I’m not sure what their leadership looks like, and I’m not worried either as it’s all a FOSS protocol.
@pieceofthepie @elonjet the beauty of open source is that we don’t have to put a lot of faith into any organization or leader. If the community is unhappy, some new prospective maintainers fork the original repository and the the community moves on.
@elonjet I don’t blame him, he probably wanted out and now he got the opportunity to do it "quietly" and cashing in on it too. No harm is done as everything is open source and the community just moves on after a couple weeks. It happens all the time in open source projects.
Today is a sad day JetNet bought ADSBExchange. The data source for ElonJet/bots not to worry as other networks will be coming up. If you feed ADSBexchange we encourage you to stop feeding. ADSBExchange was founded on the principles of hobbyists community not for profit PE firms. https://www.jetnet.com/news/jetnet-acquires-ads-b-exchange.html

Bone marrow.
@VileLasagna @gamingonlinux You must be talking about continental Europe. The Scandinavians only ever colonized a few territories and couldn't hold on to them, so barely profited of off it like the UK, Belgium, France etc. Norway, Sweden, and Finland was very poor up until the 20th century. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scandinavian_colonialism

@VileLasagna @gamingonlinux >Everything they have is built on the misery of others that they enforce.

Can you elaborate on that?
