Great news! Physics Girl is making videos again!

Bad news: Attacks on science are so bad I need to talk at a rally on Saturday.

Interesting news: We need to find more near-Earth asteroids.

And it's all here!

Standing up for Science rally, Physics Girl is back, and we need to find more asteroids

I’m angry about anti-science attacks, Dianna Cowern has made a new video, and a graph shows why we need to look for near-Earth asteroids

I’m excited to share a little project of mine: GoLight Energy - an iOS app for people in Europe who want to see how green their local electricity is! You can get it on the App Store today: https://apps.apple.com/app/golight-energy/id6755192452

It works like a traffic light:

🟢 Use energy when it’s green.

🔴 Hold off when it’s red.

A small shift in timing, such as when you cook or charge your car, can help increase renewable usage and reduce reliance on coal and gas.

Building this was a great chance to dive deeper into SwiftUI from the other side, exploring advanced scrolling APIs and designing with Liquid Glass!

Huge thanks to the team at Fraunhofer ISE behind Energy-Charts (@energy_charts_d). Their API powers the app, and their website (https://energy-charts.info) is fantastic for those interested in grid data and renewables!

Umberto Eco’s List of the 14 Common Features of Fascism

14.) Ur-Fascism speaks Newspeak. “All the Nazi or Fascist schoolbooks made use of an impoverished vocabulary, and an elementary syntax, in order to limit the instruments for complex and critical reasoning.”

Great news today the French government have launched their own Visio video conferencing tool #digitalsovereignty

But the PR stories, while explaining it is French built, don't mention it is Open Source and based on LiveKit - so any government can reuse what they have done.

Anyone here tried using a Dasung e-ink monitor for development work?

I'm considering buying one so I can use my Framework laptop outside (the LCD panel is only really good enough for cloudy days or shade).

Cupertino, who literally made the Mac HIG, forgot how to HIG… This is * NOT * how you make Mac app Settings windows.

How do you forget how to design Mac apps? You * literally * invented them.

To clarify: GoFundMe pays out donations the day after they’re made (except weekends/Mondays), so this is the last day to contribute that I'll get before Nov 1. Every bit of support (financial or by spreading the word) makes a huge difference and brings me closer to staying in my home. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for your kindness and support.

last week at a Wikipedia conference I did the Kubrick stare with the guy from the "Kubrick stare" article! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kubrick_stare
