This was a good read, thanks for posting. I’m on vanilla arch and I looked into switching to Cachy but the size of the team and the direct replacement of Arch specific packages stopped me. I don’t know if I trust a small team, in already the niche OS of today, to maintain everything indefinitely and without issue.
This is one of those scenarios that id wish for those optimizations to come to trunk in a meaningful way than for a separate branch to exist.
Going back on ai generated voice lines would be a meaningful step in earning good graces again. As of right now, I’m not sure I believe the CEO on anything. They don’t seem to understand what made their game successful and they seemed okay with cutting corners where they could. They feel like a corporate group in its infancy and I’d like them to feel like a AA company run, operated by, and full of artists and real people - not corpos.
I exclusively use the plastic aeropress (3 years or so) and although upgrading to something stainless seems like a nice upgrade I’d want to revisit best brewing methods and make that decision again before spending $150+. I don’t drink coffee every week let alone every month, typically doing week long streaks before taking a break, so this is cool to see but nothing that makes me rush out and upgrade.
There seems to be some haters in the comments for the aeropress, I guess I’d like to know better alternatives for quickly brewing black coffee for one person.
It’s cool so many people are going with arch based distros. I’ve been on vanilla arch and had nearly zero issues. I like the idea of the optimizations Cachy provides but I’m not certain how much of a difference that would make and if that’d be worth it. I suspect it’s not a crazy large difference and therefore any flavor of arch including vanilla is probably sufficient, let alone all the successful distros that aren’t arch based.
Right now I have 3 sources:
- mate drinks like Mio Mate (found in Germany) and that’s 100 mg a bottle which is all I’ll have a day unless I’m really feeling it (so max 200).
- black coffee which I hand grind and brew via aeropress. Just one cup normally. I don’t have any idea how many mg that is but it feels as fast as the mate although maybe anecdotally weaker.
- loose leaf tea, which I brew once or twice a day, using old leaves from the day before (if I’m on a streak) and a splash of new ones (unless it’s the first day where it’s all new). Feels slower but lasts longer so maybe it’s more caffeine? I guess it depends on if I’m doing black or green or white etc.
So I’d guess 100-150 mg on average on days where I’m having caffeine. I try to do long breaks between a couple weeks of having it. So like a week or two of drinking caffeinated drinks and a week or two not having it. Not too stringent but just something I’m cognizant of to not get dependent.
Why are you defending scummy business practices? Are they paying you? Do you like it when shittu businesses do shitty things to normal people? Then why the fuck are you defending them?
Stop normalizing shitty behavior and instead be a part of the solution.
I moved to Germany from the US and make a point of calling myself an immigrant to tackle this very thing. Honestly I haven’t heard expat used by anyone besides contractors looking to go back home after the duration, but that’s anectodal.
Because from what I can tell Matrix isn’t a good Discord replacement. I’ll spin up a server just to trial it, but every person I’ve talked to who isn’t already on Matrix and every thing I’ve seen or read says it’s not a discord replacement, it’s just a chat app.
Stoat and Fluxer can be self-hosted which is my main desire. Something fully under my control, with my data security, that won’t rely on another service to keep it running (although naturally I rely on the code base being maintained, hence donating as if it was a paid product).
Alright, stoat or revolt or anyone else, you’ve got 6 months. I’ll move my group over in 6 months and donate to the best solution. Thanks everyone for pushing back against discord, to the indie devs who are working on alternatives, and to the self-hosting community for making it possible for me to even plan to move off of discord.
Society’s ultimate purpose should be to make our lives better, not to enrich share holders. Merz, and conservatives at large, work against society’s best interests. Don’t let them get or keep power, they are a plight.
