real life will have no place here.

I'm here to talk about my nerdy interests: #writing, #RPG, #boardgames, #videogames, #speculativefiction

we do not emerge victorious from the cage
we do not escape unscathed, we scapegoats of seething rage
but we break it down
we cannot do otherwise

crack

crack

crack

the splinters and shards suffuse us
we carry bits of the cage with us always
but from destruction, we construct
and we who once were held in place

move

Iconoclasty

encased in a cage of bone
intentionally calcified
obtusely ossified
edified from an embarrassing absence of empathy
malignant appellations of apathy
salacious, sycophantic sociopathy

bones made by milking every drop of drama
squeezing every scintilla of septic sympathy
from unsuspecting specters you made of us all

backed into a corner
baked into the system
written in blood-thin barters
is the code that says it must
come crashing down

- a microSD card weighs somewhere around 0.4g
- the highest capacity microSD that's easily available is 256GB
- a trebuchet can throw a 90kg projectile over 300m

90kg worth of microSD cards is 225,000 of them

Therefore a trebuchet can throw 57.6PB of data over 300m

This would have the highest throughput of any telecommunications network ever created

Finally finished a draft of an ill-conceived short story I started about two months ago. So I can put that away and never worry about it again. Hooray!
Finished the 10th episode of Disenchantment tonight. This show is not as good as Rick & Morty (what is?) or Futurama, but I really like the characters and am looking forward to the next 10 episodes.

After 27 years, give or take, as a Windows user, I decided to give #Linux a serious try. For the past year or so, I've used Mint, then Debian, and currently Ubuntu as my daily driver at home.

It has been 100% worth it, and the more I learn about the command line and the file system, the more I want to learn.

I am sure it's not this way for everybody, but where Windows always felt like this arcane thing that just *is*, Linux feels like something I can truly understand and control.

International Day Against DRM 2018

#IDAD

Tuesday, September 18th.

The theme for this year is A Day Without DRM, which is exactly what it sounds like. While we encourage our supporters to enjoy DRM-free media, we'll also be highlighting some unlikely places one might find DRM ... more at the link.

Granted, this is a feature Linux gamers have requested for ages. But the revelation that Valve has been funding the development of DXVK both is astonishing and makes perfect sense. This is a power play by Valve, working to secure their position as the default PC game store even if Microsoft tries to take them down in the future. But it sure will make Linux gamers happy in the present.
