Long shot here. Do any long time Mac users know where I might find an image of the original installation media for a "late 2005" Mac Mini? I'm not super familiar with Mac stuff. Also, can that particular Mac Mini boot from a USB drive?

John Carlos BaezBig news in bug math. This is the first year since 1803 when both 13-year cicadas and 17-year cicadas will emerge from the ground simultaneously in the US!
13 and 17 are both prime. It's believed cicadas evolved to have prime-number life cycles, thus avoiding predators that emerge more frequently, like once every 4 years or 5 years or... whatever. By showing up infrequently, with a prime number life cycle, cicadas can starve out those predators.
And since 13 and 17 are both prime and 13 × 17 = 221, both kinds of cicadas emerge simultaneously only once every 221 years. And
1803 + 221 = 2024
so now they'll both emerge simultaneously and we'll have 𝑙𝑜𝑡𝑠 of cicadas!
Also, this year the two kinds can interbreed! Maybe they're be fruitful and multiply... and we'll get 221-year cicadas. 😆

I've unearthed some "new" old software for the new year!
Two fun programs for the Commodore Amiga compose music autonomously by recombining pieces of "musical DNA" from existing songs.
They were creations of Yaakov Kirschen and his team of student programmers at LKP Ltd. in Israel in 1986-87.

So, I figured out how to fix my Atari 2600 composite mod. There are 4 resistors on the board that come from four pins on TIA. I just added 22k resistors to each pin in parallel with the existing resistors and that brought the signal damn close to 1v p-p. You can't see the resistors under the shielding though. Works great now!
I probed the signals from TIA on pins 2, 5, 7, and 8 and they look fine in the scope. Output from my board is really weak though.
Going bonkers here trying to do a composite mod on my Atari 2600. I removed the RF modulator and tried pulling the video signal from pin 4 there. The image is horribly dim. Next thing I tried is removing resistors and pulling the signals directly from the TIA chip. I built a little board to mix them there but that's giving me a rolling image, with no chroma information or even a color burst. I'm about to throw in the towel and just buy a pre-made kit. At least everything I did is reversible
I now understand why people seek these things out! The picture is absolutely phenomenal! I am so thrilled to have found this amazing monitor locally for not much money at all. Recently serviced by the previous owner who is an ex-Sony technician. Bezel is cracked but that doesn't bother me at all.
