Choice is the name you give to what you got
For starters: Laid, by James, about a man in a relationship w/a terrifying woman: Maher’s down with kinky lyrics, but says it’s pathetic to see a man bullied by his #woke partner. Fox takes the mention of a therapist to argue “even Hollyweird liberals admit: mental disorders follow from transgenderism” despite the fact that the band’s English, the lyrics don’t deal with trans people, and the term “transgenderism” is some trolling bullshit. David Brooks would misquote the song as “James” by Laid.
“Laid” by James just came on Spotify so I’m going to start a thread of songs about folks who “mess around with gender roles.” I’m white, and these are songs that white-dominant culture sang along and celebrated for decades, but which white-dominant would throw a shitfit about today. I mean a week of Fox programming, a segment on Bill Maher, and three NYT Opinion pieces.
@jayrosen_nyu it’s also odd that Axios told him he’s lost credibility in Tampa. As I understand it Axios Local has a very small footprint locally, so who has the knowledge of Tampa to even give that kind of feedback?
@froomkin this is the good shit
"Any serious reporter should spit at the mention of @axios," writes @CharlesPPierce, "a creepy little band of Beltway-drunk dilettantes who don't have the courage God gave the average assistant night city editor at a 30,000-circulation daily." https://www.esquire.com/news-politics/politics/a43337271/axios-ben-montgomery-desantis/
The Media Better Be Smart and Get Wise to DeSantis' Bad-Faith Press Operation

If a reporter can't recognize propaganda and call it out when he sees it, then what's even the point?

@dangillmor are you saying this article normalizes going after librarians?
@jayrosen_nyu what do you make of Axios Tampa firing its reporter for sending a pushback email to a DeSantis press release? Seems like a sign that Axios wants its Locals to be toothless
@jayrosen_nyu hadn’t heard “angertainment” before but for me, if you subbed that in for “commercial” it’s a great definition, since entertainment seems intrinsically a business.
@ftrain why do you hate the Mets
@jayrosen_nyu why commercial arm and not media arm?
