@securedrop @theintercept TheIntercept is back to advertising a SecureDrop instance!

I've seen no commentary or explanation about the extended outage or restoration, & the new address differs from the old.

again, more details at a Twitter thread: https://twitter.com/gojomo/status/1681711106858061824

zip plus .zipp or .zp
zip minimized.zipm or .zi
zip diminutive .zipito
@liaizon @tripofmice that'd have been my guess as well, but kinda hoping it was http://www.sfice.com - which does sell custom cubes of various types!
San Francisco Ice Company

Faulty ice machine or last minute event? We provide delivery throughout the San Francisco Bay Area. We also have a full service pick up location in San Francisco offering party, block, and dry ice,...

@edsu notably, also, Bluesky's growing custom feeds mean 'following' need not be the main way of reading others - so it's comparatively costless to use as tickle/fake-signal

@edsu somewhat unavoidable in open system that some accounts will try that.

on their seed instance they've cracked down when they notice it, but all-new mechanisms will be needed to get meaningful counts of things that are essentially 'free' to fake (including, now, superficially-meaningful posts).

@mathowie and/or on some stimulant bender

is the mysteriously-long @securedrop outage at @theintercept a de facto 'warrant canary' implying that they've lost control of their SecureDrop instance?

my Twitter thread of speculation, based on the public penumbras of an extended outage that seems otherwise hard-to-explain: https://twitter.com/gojomo/status/1673477235473526785

“ok, dammit, *I'll* put my paranoid hat on, & connect the dots of my QT'd thread. from the publicly-viewable transitions, I fear that earlier this year, @theintercept lost confidence in the security of, if not outright physical possession of, their @securedrop hardware. …”

@[email protected] @paul thanks!

FYI, for me that URL shows a 32m video, & the AI stuff seems to start at ~24m in

ignore, testing - now is the time for all quick foxes to come to the aid of their lazy dogs

@mlinksva wraplies could have wikinature, too, or not – according t prefs of whichever root-entities granted the right-of-wraply.

the wikiness of Twitter's system is interesting, as are some of their design choices aimed at deemphasizing affiliations.

but ultimate authority remains with Twitter, subject to process-tuning for their corporate aims.

so I'd prefer a multipolar, opt-in system, where others who can do better, for longer, more reliably aren't on yankable leash of Twitter Inc.
