Bad times in media are just getting worse every day. π
Sometimes loud, formerly poet, always opinionated. As in guillotine.

Seeing Sinners tonight in a rare theater outing, catching it before it gets bumped off the (fake) IMAX screens tomorrow because my son insists that's a must. (He saw it in 70mm.)
Can it live up to the hype? π€
Personally, I remain unconvinced by the vast majority of AI use cases in most industries, and believe the rush to adoption is a combination of banal FOMO and relentlessly unscrupulous PR.
It feels "inevitable" because it's being pushed everywhere β by default and often without any way to opt out β but that doesn't mean you have to find ways to make it useful, nor entertain pundits who want to convince you otherwise.
"In the end, it's not about rejecting technology. It's about refusing to sacrifice people at its altar." David Gallaher
There's a misleading belief that you're either pro- or anti-AI, but Gallaher offers a great example of how companies should be approaching AI from a human-first perspective instead. (aka, pro-Craft)

"We don't actually have to follow along with the narratives that tech tycoons make up for each other. We choose the tools that we use, based on the utility that they have for us...
It's telling that the creators of so many of the AI tools don't even have enough confidence in their offerings to simply let users choose to adopt them, and are instead forcing them into users' faces in every possible corner of their apps and websites."

Ugh. I want to reflexively dismiss this outright but Lanier's involvement makes me curious... π€
(You Are Not a Gadget is one of my all-time faves.)
The Diamond situation is a total mess, but having gone through a similar corporate bankruptcy before, I feel bad for the regular employees who had nothing to do with these shenanigans.
Many are caught in a no-win scenario: stick around and hope they have a job under new owners, or find something else fast in an industry that's struggling?
Shame the execs, but have some grace for everyone else.
Despite the clever tagline, the #BISG annual meeting wouldn't be considered sexy by most people. Most people are wrong, though.
I took a ton of old-fashioned notes, most of which were reasonably legible a few days later, and here's some of my favorite takeaways.
