That woman worked really hard to get arrested, but how much of that action will be a coordinated fight against the damages of historically oppressive structures that harm all, including Black and Indigenous women?
Because without significant work, all anyone is gonna see about this is “oh that pretty white woman…”
Some people have brought up this instance of a white trans woman getting arrested for using the bathroom in Florida, as a counterpoint Here's the thing: this was a planned protest. Conversely, the Black lesbian using the restroom was just trying to pee, in a non-federal building. Marcy (the white trans woman) "sent letters earlier in March to Florida lawmakers warning them that she planned to use a specific women’s bathroom in the Capitol and included a photo of herself for identification." Marcy had a reporter from the Tampa Bay Times accompany her. When she arrived "she was met outside by two officers who said they would try to work with her. Rheintgen decided to use the bathroom anyway." Only THEN was she arrested. Meanwhile Kalaya, the Black queer gender nonconfirming woman, was just trying to take a piss and THAT was enough to get the cops sicced on her.
