Trump has deleted the entire US Global Change Research Program website -- a research program required by federal law.
I know many people have downloaded and preserved documents from that website in recent days. The problem is bigger though: the entire future research effort has been cancelled. Existing documents can be saved. End future research blinds the public and policymakers to current and future risks to the country and public health.

I've been talking to GitHub and giving them feedback on their "create issues with Copilot" thing they have in the works.

Today I tested a version for them and using it I asked copilot to find and report a security problem in curl and make it sound terrifying.

In about ten seconds it had a 100-line description of a "catastrophic vulnerability" it was happy to create an issue for. Entirely made up of course, but sounded plausible.

Proved my point excellently.

At Camp Smalltalk of #esug2025 this year, we analysed a code base we've never seen before using #gtoolkit. https://vimeo.com/1097604894?share=copy @estebanlm

Using GToolkit to take a look at a software project we have never seen before, we quickly create custom visualisations for the code. Camp Smalltalk is an ideal…

Ireland shuts last coal plant, becomes 15th coal-free country in Europe.

"Moneypoint in County Clare, Ireland, joins the ranks of other European nations exiting coal by shutting off power generation at its sole remaining coal plant. Industry observers say Ireland’s increased renewable energy generation in recent years, particularly in wind, has contributed to this milestone. Moneypoint now functions as a backup oil burner under emergency instruction, but it is no longer active in the wholesale electricity market."

• Müllcontainer kann man hinstellen, wo man will
• Nehmt euch frei – Urlaubstage, krank melden usw.

THANATOS (1983)
Acrylic - 24" x 36"

Just before beginning this painting I broke my right hand—my painting hand!—and I found myself forced to function with my fingers, wrist, and arm immobilized in a cast. Determined not to let the injury stop me from painting, I employed several tricks to circumvent my temporary infirmity. 1/5

First, I took a paintbrush with me to the doctor's office so that the cast could be molded around my hand holding the brush. That way I could still paint large areas with that hand. Then I relearned how to paint with my left hand. Although I am not ambidextrous, I had done some left-handed artwork before and I managed. 2/5
The most interesting trick though was devised by my good friend John Crawford, who is a top-notch engineer. John masterminded a radio-controlled, solenoid-operated airbrush for me, which allowed my left hand to work the air brush strapped to the cast on my right arm! 3/5
However there was one hitch...the crystal in the transmitter was set on a frequency that allowed interference from local CB traffic, and at times my airbrush would mysteriously sputter into life and begin spraying on its own! 4/5

@MichaelWhelan It’s really awesome discovering that a major portion of the science fiction and fantasy books I read in my youth, books I chose because the artwork spoke to me, were created by you. Thank you for helping build my love for storytelling.

@calsnoboarder @MichaelWhelan

I feel the same!! These are all incredible and I’ve read so many!

@MichaelWhelan
When the cover is more enduring in my memory than the book it is attached to. Thanks for sharing these covers.

@MichaelWhelan

Oh My God I can't believe you did the cover art for this. I love it. I have this book and the other Incarnations of Immortality. Did you do any of the others?

@noondlyt Yes, I painted the covers for books 1-5. Being a Green Mother was my last.
@MichaelWhelan 4/5 was boosted into my timeline before I saw the rest of the thread. Instantly recognized it as the cover art for On a Pale Horse. Great to see the original and the process that went into the creation. Thank you.

@MichaelWhelan

That was one of the best covers I ever saw. It was far better than the story within.
