@dizzy I don't like violence so while I agree on the sentiment I would have to disagree with the resolution. But also, if I'm writing outside a chat medium I tend to write with sentence capitalization and punctuation. Yes that includes this reply.
@Zenbuffy A number of years ago, when video streaming platforms were just starting to split away from netflix, someone wrote that they thought the directives were thinking of cable/satellite tv. This person speculated that their end goal was for people to go back to paying $70+ (sometimes $100+) a month like they had with cable packages. I don't think they considered even slightly how easy it is now to get sufficient entertainment out of like, YouTube, or (馃あ) TikTok.
@cpw I have never heard of a case actually getting to the "extinguish" phase. And honestly, EEE has always felt wrong to me. IMO, the more likely plan is usually "Embrace, Extend, Profit from people who think your extensions are worth paying extra for", extinguishing feels counterproductive almost every time. but EEP maybe doesn't roll that well off the tongue.
@dizzy Leans heavily toward 4, yes. But in a gradient. I will never pirate an indie game. And eg. I just bought Assassin's Creed Mirage, because as much as I don't like Ubisoft as a company, they do have game developers that have made a game I think I will enjoy greatly, and I want their bosses to let them continue making games like that.
@dizzy but, the thing that the information represents can be a work produced by people's efforts over months or years, so I think there's a somewhat moral requirement to make sure that people are appropriately compensated for the usefulness or entertainment you obtained through the use of the work (be it software, or art). However, other cases are such that the people benefitting from the copyright, are not the ones who put in the effort, and in that case, I don't feel any moral obligation.

@dizzy Since I voted "My opinion is more complex":

First of all, I don't agree with the use of the term "piracy" when applied to duplication of digital information without permission of the owner. I know it's common now, but I still don't like it.

With that out of the way: I don't believe copyright infringement is moral, or immoral, per se. I believe digital information itself doesn't have a value beyond the cost of storage and distribution, but... (continues)

@dizzy Anyhow it's fine. If this keeps happening I might just have to consider mastodon itself NSFW cos if I follow enough people there's bound to be others that share nsfw content. Not your fault.
@dizzy Yeah THIS ONE shows as "sensitive content" lol. unlike the other one.
