Okay, weirdness inside e-waste today. This was inside a commercial envelope fold/seal machine. Last minute hardware patch? They're Radio Shack perforated boards! With a relay and PIC16 on them!
The new A2L class of refrigerants are mildly flammable so manufacturers are adding leak sensors and alarms to their HVAC equipment. Yesterday was the first day I tested one in the field, super cool stuff, glad to have it. Hopefully it doesn't complicate the lives of technicians and owners much more.
If anyone out there is ever looking for rare or strange integrated circuits, computer chips, CMOS, whatever let me know. Our maker space has gotten so many donations from people clearing out their garages or estates after a loved one passed away that we have thousands of random chips and I've picked up the torch of sorting and organizing them. I started using Google lens to identify some of the weirder ones and last week found a bunch of Soviet era Nixie tube drivers.
