Fraser Tweedale - champion open source guy in Australia - has logged a Freedom of Information request for the myGov code generator app:
https://www.pozible.com/project/mygov-app-source-code-foi-review-1
So we have a very simple app, that should be based on standard public TOTP algorithms, produced by the Australian government, for use by the public. And yet they have fought at every turn to not release the source code to this app. And of course we get to the stage where Fraser has to stump up a fair bit of money in order to take the case to the Administrative Review Tribunal.
Personally I'm baffled that they felt the need to write their own. Which is why I completely support Fraser trying to see that this stuff is actually implemented securely and in the open, and can therefore be trusted to secure people's access to vital government services.
Go @hackuador !
I got very mad about the Australian government's absolutely useless "Whole of Government AI Plan" and wrote a very long post.

Feedback welcome. I'm not an expert.
The Australian Public Service’s (APS) official culture of AI adoption is not found in the glossy press releases of its ministers. But we’ll get to that shortly. The real story of AI adopton is revealed in the quiet, conflicting, and deeply secretive actions of its most senior bureaucrats. A case in point: Hamish Hansford. Hansford is not a mid-level manager; he is the Department of Home Affairs’ Head of National Security, the Commonwealth Counter-Terrorism Coordinator, and the National Counter Foreign Interference Coordinator.
@82mhz a great teacher once pointed out to me the old line about "practice makes perfect" is wrong.
In fact, "practice makes permanent". i.e. be very careful what you're practising, because without mindful attention to the difference between your intention and the outcome, you're just going to get better at doing it wrong.
