I would never say it publicly, but one benefit of a good Poetry class is not that you develop the ability to plausibly pass as a pretentious snob.

It's (at least partly) about getting permission to notice how much lively, crackling, and unforgettable language is all around you every day.

It’s hard not to say “AI” when everybody else does too, but technically calling it AI is buying into the marketing. There is no intelligence there, and it’s not going to become sentient. It’s just statistics, and the danger they pose is primarily through the false sense of skill or fitness for purpose that people ascribe to them.
POLLS ARE BULLSHIT. Pollsters are bullshitters. Reporters who report polls report bullshit. The only polls that matter are the ones that come on election day. Anything else preempts democracy.

Even I'm a little tired of hearing preachy defenses of the liberal arts. But I deal with IT vendors and their desperation correlates with their inability to clearly describe their value on offer. If we are interested, I end up on Zoom with their sales people, coaching them through explaining to me, in clear terms, why their product or service is valuable.
Poor communication skills are hurting business. ChatGPT isn't going to fix this, folks, if you confuse ChatGPT in the prompts.

Teaching history classes, if I want to understand what AI can do in place of my students, I'd better start by deciding what I expect my students to do in the first place.

AI can offer a decent, if vague summary of the armed forces desegregation process after World War II. But even prior to ChatGPT, I probably wanted students to hone historical thinking *skills* by way of that episode, rather than just be aware of some details of it.

For a lot of us, hearing that AIs can pass standardized tests important for professions prompts us to have more questions about those exams and their relationship to professional development, then it does AI
