Long-form print discourse within radical scenes is a dying form. We have become overly-reliant on thinkpiece websites and social media. For those of us that came into anarchist networks via newspapers and 'zines, it probably feels somewhat alien to hear that people are being radicalized on Discord and Reddit. Yes, there are some advantages to using the internet as a tool for communication, and we don't abstain from it. But every tool has its limits.
A revitalization of anarchist print media is underway. Rupture Mag is the beginning of that here in D.C. In other US cities there is The Chaostar (NYC), Filler (PGH), and Anathema (PHL). Some of these issues will be free locally to those in the know. Unlike other releases from this distro, will have to sell a significant portion of these zines to cover the costs of Issue #2. That being said, we hope that future issues can be full-color and professionally printed on 11" x 17" glossy paper.
This issue is about reflection. Reflection on past movements and direct actions. Reflection of past strategies can help us forge new ones. In the 'What Went Down' section we will feature a recap of direct actions from 2011-2023. None of the editorials or reportbacks are from 2023, however our future issues will be more topical and relevant.
