Hello Mastodon guys! I'm Fred, husband, father, developer and FOSS enthusiast.
My interest is technology, in all areas.
Follow famous people without reciprocity is not what I want at Mastodon, though it's a microblog. While there is still no real federated social network, I want to meet new people with similar interests (or not), considering that nobody will block who add unknown people. 🙌🏻
Add me, I'll add back, and create with me a cycle of contacts outside big techs! Greetings! 🤜🏻🤛🏻
I often hear the question, "Why bother with a home server when it's not that expensive to hire a VPS?" While cost is not the most important factor, the distribution of data storage and processing is crucial. Have you noticed that these two activities are increasingly centralized by big corporations? Information processing and storage represent power, and delegating these activities to common people promotes democracy.
Your ISP is concerned about network costs, not lawyer costs.
The only intermediaries between the communication of people must be the routers, that find the way from our computer till the others machines through the Internet.
There are 2 factors that will revolutionize the technology world on the next years: 5G and ipv6.
5G will provide abundance of broadband connections and ipv6 will allow everyone to have their own public IP with open ports. These two features have the potential to give internet back to people allowing everyone to install servers without the need of any isp spoofing.

Bringing our cycle of friends to the idea of a federated network is not easy. Most do not realize how bad it is to have someone as an intermediary in your communication, putting ideas between our lines and manipulating the concept of important content (relevant posts) to change the behavior of populations.

Mastodon rescues and enforces an idea which will spread the market of programming services and the other IT careers. Not because the platform itself but for the philosophy of distributing the processing power through all the computing infrastructure of the world. It'll create more opportunities for IT professionals because this federated model allow customization of systems stopping the massive standards and taking out the monopoly from the big techs companies.
The growing and monopoly of big techs companies generates unemployment and the decline of the working power in the field of technology.

As people learn to use Mastodon, they realize that this social network still has a lot of resources to implement to become a day-to-day environment for people, due to the inevitable comparison that everyone makes. That's why I think it's important to feed the life of the system, posting, expressing ideas, communicating, interacting, because this is what matters most when we socialize.

Hi ALL! I'm a husband, father, musician, lawyer, coursing Full Stack Engineer at Codecademy and dreaming about a really free internet where people can have their own sites/apps running at a home server or mobile without port blocking, throttling, ping increment nor dynamic IPs.
I'm excited with the idea of a spreading network. It's always good to keep our communication channels at our hands.
