CamScanner does a good job. I use it on Android, don't know if there's an IoS version. But take care if it leaks any data.
Tesseract itself works great, but needs some configuration and tweeking. But there are a few GUIs for it available which can do most of that.

So...
Apparently I've been locked out of fosstodon without further notice. Can't login to my account since about 8 hours.

The only message there is that my account is "frozen and I can't do anything until it gets unlocked".

Still waiting for a reply from the team about the reason.

Switched to this instance until clarification. If you want to follow me again...

Thinking about running my own instance. Decentralization is nice, but I've just learned how quickly one can find himself cut off.

Certification management is another kind of business. If done correctly and on a professional basis it requires resources and educated staff.
Updating/extending a zonefile is more or less an automated task. For sure there's more load on the server when customers create masses of subdomains. But how many do that?
10 is an arbitrary limit with no monetary reason. Just like, i.e. 5 email aliases per account.
Ok, it's their decision.
