Finally getting the hang of DNS. My hosting provider only offers 10 subdomains, but by using my own nameservers I can essentially set up as many subdomains as I want.

As if one line in a zonefile would cost a fortune.

Certification management is another kind of business. If done correctly and on a professional basis it requires resources and educated staff.
Updating/extending a zonefile is more or less an automated task. For sure there's more load on the server when customers create masses of subdomains. But how many do that?
10 is an arbitrary limit with no monetary reason. Just like, i.e. 5 email aliases per account.
Ok, it's their decision.
