Trans person trying to be a bit better every day. I use this space to think out loud and share little bits of my work (mostly essays, photography, programming stuff) that are incomplete or have no other home. More serious stuff goes on my blog!

I wish @asterisk still posted here because honestly she's always been such an inspiration to me.

Me, checking Instagram just now: "... is that a screenshot from an Abbas Kiarostami film???"

there's something really fun about seeing obscure media in random places because someone happened to like a quote or a visual.

Other replies are using the "quality" of this list to rag on modern music. I'm a Millennial and I've heard of just 24 of these artists (which is double counting e.g. Green Day, on there twice). Most people are wildly overconfident in the staying power of "their" music.

A fellow Millennial posted this over on Bluesky, and it was clear it made them very nostalgic. It's a pretty good indicator of how quickly pop culture fades - I'm 33 and I've heard of *six* of these 40 songs.

Someone please help me understand what could possibly have happened to the typeface for this logo?! This is worse than just using Papyrus.
Classic giant douche vs turd sandwich moment.

I've been reading Bettcher's "Beyond Personhood" recently and continue to feel puzzled about this argument.

She's trying to solve the problem of social-constructivism seeming to undermine our self-understandings (e.g. as queer/trans people). So rather than give an error theory, she's reinterpreting the meaning of experiences like seeing your "true" self in a mirror: "self-recognition isn't making incorrect factual claims, it's expressing awareness of a thing that's true within my theory."

It has been 14 years since the release of XKCD 949, and unbelievably, the situation is somehow still not fixed.

"Oh but we have Magic Wormhole now."

*You and I* have Magic Wormhole. Everyone else has, well, I guess you can send them a link to a zip file containing Rymdport, a Windows GUI for wormhole, and hopefully they know how to extract the exe and run that.

Oh wait, they let their laptop go to sleep during the transfer? You have to restart it now. Sorry about that, no you can't resume it.

Hey so this is interesting
