@TALlama Sorry for the late reply - but no, there's no way to do this.

As a workaround, I would duplicate your image, resize it to the aspect ratio you'd like, and then pull out the layers you're interested in to the original image.

Acorn 8.2 is out! Gus wrote a blog post about it <https://shapeof.com/archives/2025/9/acorn_8.2_and_tahoe_plans.html>

@daisy55 Oh my gosh, but super late reply on this.

Yes, it's possible. There's an alignment option in the shape palette (Fill & Stroke section) that'll do the trick.

@eduo The 'Select ▸ Make Selection from Layer' menu item should do it. Or you can command click on the layer icon in the layers list as a little shortcut.

Let me know if I'm not understanding what you're after!

@roguewolf Not without doing the shape->selection trick. Setting the width and height on a selection is something I'd like to happen though.

Say Hello to Acorn 8: https://shapeof.com/archives/2024/12/say_hello_to_acorn_8.html

Mask Subject, Remove Background, LUTs, Data Merge, Quick Processor, Canvas Ruler, new shape tools, Export Presets, SVG improvements, QOL things, in/cm support in all the UI, Shortcuts rewritten to use App Intents, JPEG-XL support, Live Text. And more.

It's on sale for a limited time, so grab it at a discount while you can: https://flyingmeat.com/acorn/

Acorn is one of the few remaining independent full featured image editors left, built just for macOS.

Say Hello to Acorn 8

@zeitschlag I have zero plans to sell Acorn. And folks buying it always helps it stay that way! :)
@jon_alper Thank you for checking it out!

Gus is a little slow at getting announcements out and such, but hey it's got a bunch of neat new features: https://flyingmeat.com/retrobatch/releasenotes.html

And for the first time, it's on the App Store.
