Retired IT guy, now concentrating on bread-making, BBQ and acoustic guitar.

Splashed out on a new Panasonic bread maker. Quite please with the first result.

Yes, I can and do also make bread by hand, but somehow seldom find the time to.

I've been posting a bit about power stations, particularly the Ecoflow brand, so I thought I'd add this nugget of info about their X-Boost feature.

For those new to mastodon...

There is no algorithm there. (for better or worse, mostly better)

Boosts are the *only* way that a post will get more visibility.

Bookmarks = I'd like to find this again in the future

Star/favorite = I read this, and it didn't suck.

Boost = more people should see this.

A quick explainer about the Mastodon like (called "favourite" - it's the star). It is a personal message to the writer of the post that you liked it, and it doesn't show on anyone's time line.

If you want to spread the post, that's the boost button. The equivalent of a Twitter like is to do both a favourite and a boost.

If you think this post is useful to you click "favourite". If you think it would be useful for others too, click "boost" as well.

Edited for accuracy.

UPDATE: As of this morning there are now more than 7 million Mastodon users, most from the #TwitterMigration.

In fact, 100,000 new accounts have been created since last night.

Since last night's spike 8,000-12,000 new accounts are being created every hour.

Yesterday, I estimated that Mastodon would have 8 million users by the end of the week. That might happen a lot sooner if this trend continues.

I've been looking at Power Stations. By that, I don't mean Battersea or Hinckley Point. I mean the battery backed boxes that can power mains kit when there is no mains electricity available.

It also illustrated the issue with assumptions. This device actually mentioned CPAP, indicating it would run one for 4 hours.

My initial test supported this, with the CPAP drawing 50W. As CPAPs do; when they are not under any load, they just run at top speed.

Add a hose, mask and breathing human being, and it was a different story. 12-25W during inhalation, negligible during exhalation. And suddenly that 4 hours expected usage becomes a useful 12-14 hours; longer than I ever sleep.

Useful!

Against the possibility of power cuts, I've been looking at Li-ion power station devices.

While doing so, I picked up a cheaper 210Wh model, way less power than I'd been looking for, to play with.

Then I discovered that my purchase will happily run my CPAP all night. In fact, it would have run for 12+ hours, just on the battery alone.

It also auto-switches from the mains to battery in 30ms. So it is perfect as an emergency backup device, at £199, half the cost of a medical alternative.

Biggest laugh for me - the AutoEV review with "First Exclusive Review" splashed across the teaser panel.

EV YouTube is getting too competitive.

Last night, and apparently all within an hour of each other, six different reviews of the Ora Funky Cat have appeared, one after the other. Then we have Autocar turn up with their take, 4 hours later.

This is self-defeating; as a sad EV fan, I am subscribed to all these channels, and I would normally watch them all. But I really don't need seven reviews of the same car on a single Wednesday morning, so I'll probably end up just watching one.
