A much overdue #introduction

My name is Adam. By day I'm a software engineer at #RedHat, hacking on things related to #kubernetes, #openshift, and more recently #shipwright and #tekton. I care deeply about #opensource and creating safe spaces for growth.

By night I'm mostly chasing my 3 children around the house. I used to #swim competitively and play goalie on my college's #waterpolo team. I also have a niche passion for #urbanism.

Big thanks to @nova and the folks running this instance!

@codedbeard maybe somewhat unorthodox, but I would rather pair with them to see what are the issues they're struggling with the most. because everyone is different... if it's possible of course

PLEASE READ & BOOST

#introduction
I'm an old techie who started programming as a kid in 1980 and never looked back. I've been lucky to get in early to some technologies that became pretty popular over time (e.g., Internet, web, AWS). I enjoy building startups and new tech communities. My content here will be primarily focused on AWS.

I never tooted an #Introduction so now feels as good a time as any.

I’m a husband and father of two on a journey to redefine myself. Two months ago, I would’ve started with job titles and technology; after taking my first ever break >1wk from work to bond with my newborn son, I found a new perspective.

I love: reading #ScienceFiction, #Fantasy, and #NordicNoir; playing (mostly DMing) #dnd5e; sitting around a fire with good friends and good #beer; and sometimes just enjoying the silence.

Reposting my #introduction after migrating. I’m 54 & live in southeastern Pennsylvania. Had 2 careers, now pondering a third. 12 years in IT then 16 years of tech blogging / podcasting & a 1.5 year stint at Google. Currently blogging about #chromebooks & #chromeOS on my own. Also covering #IoT on the side. Slowly learning #javascript through a formal program… just because! 12 years of battling #depression to make life more interesting. 😉 I enjoy #motorcycles, #LiverpoolFC & all things #Beatles ✌🏻

I just posted a quick tip on how to get the most minimal web server setup on Windows going: 🍻

Simple Webserver on Windows

Let's have a look at how to start a minimal web server on Windows to make your frontend development...

Could I tempt you to boost this post, or get involved in a project to customise Linux for users with special needs/learning difficulties? I have two such children. Adults now (18). I want to do something for my boys and for people like them. 🙂❤️

I've already done a bit, using Ansible, with AlmaLinux and Ubuntu: https://github.com/robpomeroy/BrightOS

Please spread the word - I'm sure someone out there would love to get involved!

@simon very interesting! thanks!

A tiny one for #projects today.

My personal blog https://simonwillison.net/ still stores its content in the DB using XHTML - a decision I made 15 years ago? It even has some features that work against the XML document tree.

Writing XHTML by hand isn't much fun. I decided to mostly switch to Markdown, with the least development effort I could get away with.

The result was https://til.simonwillison.net/tools/render-markdown - a tool that lets you paste in Markdown and get back HTML. It uses GitHub's API under the hood.
