Small biz IT support/consulting in Chicago's NW burbs; software dev before that; BA-CS before that. Tries to make tech understandable and not overwhelming for clients. Desperately in need of a haircut. Known associate of felines. Probably ascended once in Nethack many years ago.

My elderly father was just watching Survivor (channel surfing and stopped) and apparently Applebee's sponsored that winners of some in show contest get restaurant food. The host went on so long that my thought was "I didn't think it was legal to show fellatio on public TV but this guy's sure working it hard."

@catbailey probably not relevant at this point, but I did see something that said CISA is going to be hiring more people again
They say that a 9.2 GW, $33B plant is affordable. That is insanely big for a gas plant but run the simple math. $33B / 9.2 GW = $3620/kW. If you amortize that over 15 years at 9.5% and can expect the plant to run 70% of the time, that means you need to earn over $75/MWh just to amortize the capex.
@SeanCasten huh. Since the Roberts court decided that Trump effectively isn't subject to the jurisdiction of the US can he be stripped of his citizenship?

@404mediaco is there any reason to not create a locked stub article for Covexent that simply notes that their executive management team set up an AI agent and directed it to start creating and editing Wikipedia articles against the TOS? There doesn't seem to be any remorse and the company doesn't seem otherwise notable.

@LukefromDC @ProPublica if you're of the attitude "better no punishment than inadequate punishment" then I guess there's nothing more to say, but that kind of purity demand rarely ends well.

@LukefromDC @ProPublica that's all well and good but I'm not talking about anything in front of a jury. You're jumping *way* ahead there. I'm talking first about something that *can be passed into law.*

If you think you're going to get a legislature (in which attorneys are almost certainly overrepresented with quite a few having prosecution backgrounds) to agree to pass something that calls for prosecutors to face capital charges then you're delusional. Getting misconduct officially codified as a criminal activity deserving of prosecution would already be an extreme lift that could likely only happen as a direct and immediate response to a wrongful execution getting huge public attention.

@LukefromDC @ProPublica overreach gets you nowhere and all-or-nothing gets you nothing.
@drdrowland @404mediaco nah, designing to fail expensively would be very poor judgement. They're going to end up on their sides or otherwise abused (see also canal scooters), any company running them is going to want them trivial to get back in operation.
