This specimen is calm most of the time and can even be pet if not startled. It may become excited when asked about computers, and can easily be kept busy if tasked with solving a "problem".
@fbfortune pidwait on Linux IIUC! Cool tool! I never knew this existed and had a small script for that purpose myself...
@kate @homelab I think there might not be... at least when I last thought about it, I saw no safe way to do this. Back then I went with a passwordless reboot solution but this is annoying after power outages, so nowadays, I'd probably go for TPM & SecureBoot for unattended full disk encryption honestly
Pretty happy with the results for a surgical decap.
It looks like the quartz crystal sits on top and the oscillator driver is under it. Unfortunately we can't see the oscillator die without destroying the crystal.
Nothing looks obviously damaged, I'll do some higher mag images next.
@MissingClara @whitequark @lunareclipse Can confirm that UKIs work like a charm although I'm still using systemd-boot in between which also really gets out of the way! And systemd-ukify bundles the kernel, initrd and cmdline all together and even signs the bundle if you want
It's going really well at work and I am really looking forward to being able to talk about it! I'd say, we made a big step and it's super exciting!
@peterkotrcka @tfb I don't fully understand why things are done this way - popups asking you to update pretty please while you are in the middle of something or need to do something else isn't the only solution, I'd figure. Why not ask nicely to please schedule an appointment for computer maintenance and maybe even put it in my calendar so I can plan for it?

@viennawriter Wow glückwunsch! Ich hab mich das noch nie getraut, weil ich mal gehört habe, dass die Versicherung bei einem Brandschaden nicht zahlt, wenn die ganze Hauselektronik nicht vom Elektriker abgenommen wurde... aber vll bin ich da ja falsch informiert?
