Hello World 🌍

10 years ago today the very first post on Mastodon was made by @Gargron

What started as a small project has grown into something much bigger than anyone expected. Today the Fediverse is home to communities, creators, developers, and millions of people who believe in a more open social web.

We are glad to be here 10 years later seeing how big the Fediverse as a whole has grown. Here's to the next 10 years.

Looking for a Sharkey app? Try Aria.

Aria is an open-source client that supports most Sharkey features, including the BETA chat system. It’s also available on Android, iOS, Windows, macOS, and Linux, so you can use it on almost any device.

The app already works well feature-wise, though the visual design could use some improvements in the future. It also supports push notifications, which you can enable using a small code provided by your Sharkey instance. A tutorial for this may come later.

Want to contact the admin of a Fediverse instance? Here’s a quick way to find them.

Most servers publish their admin contact details on the /about page of their domain.

For example:
https://mastodon.social/about

There you can usually find the admin’s email address and Fediverse handle.

You can also see the details for our Fedicate Social instance here:
https://social.fedicate.org/about
(Even though it's a Sharkey instance, the page works the same way.)

@talesfeomthesbahn Great to see you are enjoying the platform. @dansup is already planning to add Schedualling and on the JoinLoops.org website it is said to be coming in Q3 2026, but maybe it could be pushed up if the system could be implemented who knows.

@[email protected] This is one gripe I've had in the last with Elk.zone, It's a great system for people but when you have something like Sharkey where it can login to Elk well not being a Mastodon Instance itself. The character limit is kinda strange, with my 3k limit going to 500.

@aspensmonster Well I agree, platforms like Hacker News will most likely not add Fediverse Support in the future. This is thought excises that @evan often does to get people talking and thinking about the different uses of ActivityPub, There thoughts on these topics as well as how they see downsides.

Well most likely central platforms that are huge echo chambers will most likely not open up to the Fediverse it'll be amazing to see them doing it, it's also fun to see how it would change the landscape as a whole as the Fediverse should be for everyone, but just because a platforms for everyone doesn't mean you need to interact with everyone.
