As I've gotten old, I tend to focus on less. Taking less bs, giving less f**cks, less tolerance for intolerance. Remembering to stop and smell the bacon.

My interests are current events, cooking, gardening, fermenting, regional foods

1957 is also the year of Max Roach's first recording with the singer Abbey Lincoln. This album, *Abbey Lincoln with the Riverside Jazz Stars* (Kenny Dorham, Sonny Rollins, Wynton Kelly, Paul Chambers and Max Roach), will be the first of 10 years of creative music, mutual love, and, as we will see later in this series, of many battles for civil rights.

This song, “Don't Explain”, is a wonderful ballad written by Billie Holiday and Arthur Herzog Jr. This interpretation is amazing in so that the musicians (especially Dorham and Rollins) manage to bring their own creativity into the playing without hindering Lincoln's moving interpretation.

Hush now, don't explain
You're my joy and pain
My life's yours, love

ps. I'm running for Commissioner of Agriculture in North Carolina. Whale tales aside- I'm here for solving rural areas' economic challenges. And I can't do it alone, so if you can, help me win this thing!

People ask why I talk about elections and voting so much.

It’s because there’s always hope.

Florida Democrats flip Republican House seat in Special Election

Florida Democrats scored a win Tuesday night in a special election to fill a vacant House seat with Tom Keen defeating Erika Booth in a closely watched race that saw major outside spending and an avalanche of mailers and TV ads.

"Like me, my friend is in his 30s and was fit and healthy when he got Long COVID. Like me, he had the much-vaunted 'hybrid immunity' of all the vaccines plus previous infection.
Like me, he has been abandoned by the leaders of our government, from the most progressive politicians to the most conservative, who seem intent on maintaining the façade that COVID is 'over' and that things are back to 'normal.'
The problem is, it’s not true. We are not back to normal."

Things are not back to normal. This is a huge crisis. The state needs to step in.

Unexpectedly stumbled on this giant troll sculpture while birdwatching in West Seattle! I knew there were new troll sculptures around; didn’t know I’d be seeing one today. 😄

The cynic in me believes that Fediverse integration only exists so that Zucc can show regulators that they care about open source software.

But that doesn’t really matter. Federation is coming. It looks like it will be a slow, drip feed, ratchet effect. The switch is more like a dial, with the end goal being “Federation on”.

My opinion is that most people on Threads won’t care, don’t know, or don’t care about Federation. After all, the option to do so is buried in the app settings, and looks like it’ll be opt-in.

Regardless of all of Zucc’s shitty actions, which includes genocide (I seriously cannot stress enough about this genocide thing), my main issue with threaderation is that we will get a flood of users who are at best ignorant and at worst hostile to our norms. They will see our posts and they will break the sanctity of our community — where the marginalised, disgruntled, and alternative make their home.

At the moment, the Fediverse is a niche – a popular niche, but still niche. What happens to our culture, and our way of life then?

Defederation from Threads is NOT being closed minded. It is not being against “the open Web”. It is about protecting those of us who live on the Fediverse who are on the fringe of existence IRL.

He's just straight up announcing his plans to be a dictator, and the frog of democracy is so fully boiled at this point that most folks are just shrugging and tuning it out.

It's a terrifying time to be alive in large part because not enough people are terrified
