My current research focuses on the accuracy of and biases in self-report measures of affect, well-being, and mental health symptoms. I have a general interest in the fundamental (and often unstated) assumptions in psychological science, particularly the assumptions that underly measures.

Perspectival realism:

“On a metaphysical level (which concerns itself with what there is out there in the world), perspectivism acknowledges that there is a reality out there, independent of our perspective on it. This is what enables us to say that a theory gets things right….On the epistemic level (which concerns itself with our capacity to know reality), however, perspectivism argues that our capacity to attain knowledge about reality is mediated by our perspective.”

I suggested to my wife that it seemed pointless to continually fill the bird feeder, as the squirrels always empty it in hours. Behind me, my son said, “It’s in your interest for the squirrels to be on your side when the Great War begins,” and ate another spoonful of Froot Loops.
Don’t know who took this shot but it’s kinda epic: a Great Grey Owl lands on a photog’s camera. Update: The photographer who took the shot is Thomas Pham-Van. The photographer looking surprised in the picture with the owl is Anaïs Trépanier.
What’s the most underrated skill that every data scientist/analyst should have but does not?

The Twilight of Nietzsche

Unlike conventional philosophers, #Nietzsche had no unified, coherent theory. He didn’t proceed in a methodical, calm manner, advancing to a carefully delineated conclusion. He never encumbered his prose with technical expressions, jargon or cloudy terminology. No plodding #Kant or #Hegel was he. He was a mystic and a seer, advocate of the Übermensch, the ‘will to power’, ‘eternal recurrence’ and the Antichrist

The twilight of Nietzsche

Lesley Chamberlain's Nietzsche in Turin captures the agony of the philosopher’s last year of sanity.
