"mastodon is way safer than twitter" seems to be the general consensus of users here and while yeah, no violent transmisogyny / transphobia but lots of casual racism! lots of that good good casual racism! i'll take my twitter, thanks.
i dont really like posting on mastodon either because i first came here and it was a bunch of white people with anime avatars talking about anime and i was like "i want to go back to the blue website and talk to my friends of colour about the vicious circle of white fuck shit"
i dont like talking about my experiences as a person of colour on mastodon cause every time ive done so, so far, ive gotten some anime avatar or channer looking ass in my notifs like "not all whites" or talking about how good they themselves are and how not racist they are
no matter how "mixed white" i am i've been a target of racialised violence for so long that the switch labelled "RACIAL AWARENESS" in my mind has been flipped and it will never be un-flipped
my dad keeps asking me why i identify more with being mixed as if his and mom's negligence (leaving me with my native japanese grandmother) lead inexorably to me just not feeling like i belonged with mom or dad
my parents are still up to that fuck shit by the way; after telling me to move out in a month, i got my shit together and am ready to move out in a month as they've asked...
but now they're saying "you're being too hasty, we're worried for you, we can work something out so you can stay here" like bitch ! you thought
i'm sorry, white people, but it's much more dangerous to be a black man in the US than it is to be a white queer and if yall are so excited to write this man off as a demon then you might want to look at how racism informs your judgment
recently something happened within my friend group where all my white queer friends jumped on a cis black man because he made an off-colour incest joke
it was really terrifying, because everyone was digging up (untrue) dirt on him and cutting him off, but i was the only one who went in private and actually talked to him about the joke he'd made
he apologised and understood nigh instantly but i could only watch as these white people descended as vultures on a corpse
white people who say they're not racist: do you call people out on their racist bs whenever it happens, or do you only do it when your friends of colour are around
if i had a dime for every white person who said "i'm not racist!" but let a racist joke slide / laughed at a racist joke to make sure things "didn't get awkward" i'd be the richest boy this side of the cascades
