@datalinkdroid @GregSadler I’m a pluralist, so I process morality similarly to how we might study the human body. Biology matters. So does chemistry, physics, and many other schools of science. Each reveals more truth. I try to evaluate moral situations through several lens, and then opt for what the majority seems to circle around.
If you want to go up the chain into meta-ethics, well, that’s a whole other story. :)
@ishmaellasting Here’s what I think you’re trying to say: “TV wants to expand; cinema wants to edit.” Right?
So, I’m bringing up examples of when cinema continues to expand. You said, “West doesn’t count.” Fair enough. So I grab some titles outside the west, and you say, “Doesn’t matter.”
Look homie, all I’m saying is judging an art form like that is dismissive. Why define TV by a few examples? Or say “it can NEVER”? Rarely are always and never statements true.
✌️
@ishmaellasting Pretty sure MCU would disagree. Also the Resident Evil movies. Fast and the Furious too. I’m sure there are more examples.
Money and capitalism can corrupt artistic vision, and it happens in all art forms. You have to judge that art form on its best examples, not it’s worst, and even then, judging art forms rarely makes sense. Why try comparing a painting to dance?
I’ve seen great TV recently ( #TedLasso ), and the editing and ending are part of its greatness.
@semioticstandard Can you stop seeing the illusion, even though you know it’s fake?
Good horror plays with anticipation; it’s part of the fun! :) I like the mind games between artists and the audience.
