One of my favorite art pieces. I just love how this one turned out, and it glows BRIGHTLY in the dark.

Just a guy living in Tacoma with my partner and our beautiful Husky, Panda.
I love to create space themed art, growing mushrooms, and cooking amazing food.
I'm a huge VR enthusiast.

In a nutshell, the stipe (stem) is used to raise the height for spore dispersal. The cap is convex to create lift on the underside (where the spores come from), this is the same mechanism for how an airplane wing gets lift. In essence, it's shaped that way to maximize spore dispersal via fluid dynamics.
Many times when you find a solitary mushroom in the wild, there will be spores on top of the cap. Which seems counter intuitive since the gills are on the underside...
@justin @caitp Unfortunately I self taught via youtube and I'm still learning so much. I just narrowed down a good fertilizer that's working wonderfully... that was one of my biggest hurdles. I'm happy to answer any questions about my setups though, concerning construction and what I would have done differently.
They're not perfect, but they do work!
