Incident report

Oopsie! Both our Mastodon and Peertube instance had a small outage, which was caused by @h3artbl33d hacking away a bit too hard. More specifically, this caused our Valkey store to segfault hard. Fixing it took about 20 minutes, as some recompiling was needed.

The /var/log is undergoing scrutiny by #APT77, before lecturing h3artbl33d on how he should hack in a testing VM, rather than on production

Buh-bye Redis  Welcome to Valkey  

During the update early September, we've noticed that the new Sidekiq version that Mastodon uses, a newer version of Redis was required. We couldn't satisfy that dependency because it wasn't available.

This required a custom patch and had our instance on the older Sidekiq version. Until now, that is! Inspired by the best barista, Stefano, we've setup a jail on HardenedBSD, slapped Valkey in it, connected the fibers and did some plumbing  

And here we are. Newest Valkey, newest Sidekiq and with more memory appointed to it than you could possibly fathom.
