30yrs ago, I started using the internet as an escape from reality.

These last few years, I've started using reality as an escape from the internet.

I don't want to "talk" to my browser. I don't want my browser to "summarize" things. I don't want my browser to "help" me with things. I don't want my browser to do anything except show me web pages and shut the fuck up and get out of the way.

I made a thing to help me find RSS feeds, and I really liked it. So I made it prettier so you can use it too, if RSS feeds are your thing.

As it turns out, in my corner of the fediverse there’s a ton of them…

"We need a weight tax on vehicles, including one on electric vehicles, to encourage cars of all types to become lighter and less damaging to the environment, roads and pedestrians."

Agreed!

Rolling SUV fatsos – including their plumper electric versions – need to pay a weight-based tax

The North American approach of stuffing batteries with the weight of small cars into monster SUVs and calling them ‘green’ because they do not produce tailpipe emissions makes no sense

I have a new article in DPReview (which is still publishing despite an impending shutdown)! In it, I look at several current methods of removing unwanted objects from photos, from healing tools to content-aware fill to incorporating Generative AI tools like DALL-E into the process.

Remove All the Things: Using modern software to erase pesky objects

Is something in your photo distracting the viewer? Sure, you could go old-school and break out the Clone Stamp, but new tools and features, including AI-assisted technologies, give you more options for removing unwanted elements in far less time.

"Cistercian Numbers" are incredibly cool

It's a rare numeric system designed by 13th century monks

Each number is a based on a single vertical stick, with patterns you draw in all four quadrants off it -- top right, top left, bottom right, bottom left

A single glyph can represent a number from 1 to 9,999

It's in my recent weekly "Linkfest" newsletter, here: https://buttondown.email/clivethompson/archive/linkfest-3-cisterian-numbers-robots-that-hug-and/
