@jloc0 Like any news now it's harder to get keep track of the less sensational things; As I recall the Biden administration's consumer protection agency capped credit card fees years ago and maybe interest rates — which of course the Trump admin killed — along with the entire consumer protection agency in general, which does almost nothing now.

More recently Trump demanded 10% credit card caps in January '26 to boost consumer spending, but it amounted to nothing happening.

@cabel When I was a kid that particular Pac-Man cabinet art kept me up at night:

"Why does it have legs and eyes when *real* Pac Man doesn't?"

"Why are the eyes red?"

"Why is it happy? If anything Pac-Man is a commentary on workplace anxiety!"

@kottke I mostly buy from Bandcamp now and still use Apple Music with that library — but less-and-less as its quirks and bugs seem to only get worse.

For a few years I've also used Swinsian (recently hit version 3.x), which feels more like the original iTunes/Soundjam MP. It also syncs up to the Apple Music library, iPods, and more.

For music metadata management I use Meta, which I wish existed back when iTunes was new.

Both are worth-a-look.

not sure how well known this already was, but i just stumbled upon an archive of super high-res 35mm photos of Newton and NeXT photos from the 90s, by photographer doug menuez. the vast majority are candid b+w snapshots of the newton and next teams as they grind through workdays and product launches

thank you to buriedbits for the archival heavy lifting. the originals are from stanford's doug menuez archive, which has more here:

@cabel That should be a logo for a worldwide tape vendor.
@cabel That's good branding; It's a clean design, has multiple meanings that all connect with the plumbing industry, and is memorable.

@kottke Along with more artful high quality content Vimeo has unique features for managing and sharing professional work. YouTube just isn't the same kind of thing.

It won't be pretty trying to find a good alternative though I can see the "alternative to" crap sites are already trying to capture that traffic.

Worst case I know how to host videos for my web sites on-my-own. It's certainly less convenient but also far easier than it was when YouTube and Vimeo were necessary services.
