Since when was a 24.49% APR on a credit card a good rate? wtf happened in the past ten years when I wasn’t looking? Is this covid or trumps fault? (Or both?)
@jloc0 I don't know about you, but for me it's hard telling the difference.
@mason in a roundabout way Covid (and what it’s caused here) is trump’s fault for mishandling the situation for as long as he did. So I guess they are one and the same. But damn I remember when APR rates were under 10% and only the worst cards were even near 20%… it’s insanity now, it’s like they are charging whatever the hell they want.
@jloc0 Corporate greed goes unchecked nowadays. "Corporations are people, my friend."

@jloc0 Like any news now it's harder to get keep track of the less sensational things; As I recall the Biden administration's consumer protection agency capped credit card fees years ago and maybe interest rates — which of course the Trump admin killed — along with the entire consumer protection agency in general, which does almost nothing now.

More recently Trump demanded 10% credit card caps in January '26 to boost consumer spending, but it amounted to nothing happening.
