Lover of walking and biking, the Northwest, thoughtful policy, parking reform and gueuze. Dad. Opinions are my own; some change over time. Union strong. He/him.

Tonight the city council of Beaverton, pop. 99,000, voted 7-0 to repeal costly parking mandates!

It became the 8th Oregon city in eight months to do so, joining Corvallis, Tigard, Bend, Salem, Portland, Central Point & Albany.

Tonight, on a 5-1 vote, the Albany, OR city council voted to repeal costly parking mandates citywide.

Albany, pop, 57,000, is Oregon's 11th largest city and 6th to repeal mandates

(Portland, Salem, Bend, Corvallis, Tigard, Albany).

One Albany down - 33 to go!

Portland, Oregon's most populous city, repealed the remainder of its costly parking mandates June 7.

It joins Salem (#2 pop.), Bend #6, Corvallis #10 and Tigard #12 in doing so.

Together, over a million Oregonians live in cities without parking mandates. @parking_reform

Within my own lifetime, the last 50 years, nearly 80% of the CO2 emissions from burning fossil fuels, and close to 60 percent of all GHG emissions have been released.

There's been a near 70% decline in populations of existing wildlife species; and across the 8 million animal and plant species on earth, the human-induced extinction rate is now estimated at tens to hundreds of times greater than natural rates.

#BiodiversityDay reminds us that the profound crises we confront are just different sides of the same coin, and that our future is truly in our hands. The planet doesn't need us: we are the ones who rely on it for all the air we breathe, the water we drink, the resources we need. That's why our choices matter more today than ever: the path to a better future lies through these crises.

One of my favorite experiences on a recent Boston trip was being threatened in a Boston accent for taking a picture of a double-parker in South Boston.

I thought it wise to not attempt to explain my parking policy fetish to the gentleman.

Here’s a fun game to play. These statements appeared on a satirical cartoon from an American presidential election in which one party was accusing the nominee of the other party of being too left on issues of race, gender, policing, poverty, and socialism. Guess which candidate these charges are being leveled at. [Answer in next toot.]

Great front page by the Miami Herald.

You can prepare by pushing for these:

➡️ Stop burning fossil fuels - electrify everything.
➡️ Densify and Mix Cities.
➡️ Build Renewables & Storage.
➡️ Build Public Transport, Cycling and Walking Networks.

Last night the Salem city council voted 7-2 to repeal parking mandates citywide.

Salem is Oregon’s second largest city (~180,000 pop) and joins Corvallis, Tigard and Bend in removing costly parking mandates.

This is good for housing and transportation choices, climate and equity. More Oregon cities are due to follow in the coming months and years…

Was proud to be part of effort to successfully unionize @HuffPost with the Writers Guild of America East, and then to work at union outfits The American Prospect and TheNation. A union is the best form of HR because they don’t work for your employer but for the workers. #labor #workersrights

Boston 🇺🇸 buses make up only 3% of all vehicles that travel at morning rush hour.

➡️ But these buses carry 56% ‼️ of the people traveling at rush hour.
