The president is being blackmailed into submission.
There is no doubt in my mind.
Even if he’s an idiot by default, even if he’s too ignorant to know what’s before his nose, he would not suffer anyone tell him what to do unless……. he had no choice but do as he’s been bid to.

Not surprisingly.
As soon as it was known that a Nobel prize for peace wasn’t forthcoming (what a ridiculous notion), all interest and pretence was dropped…. Minus of course magicking money away from the pot and into concealed pockets.
