Taliesin spoke to me this weekend, thinking about the challenge of the arts and humanities in technocratic times, and reminding me of why we want to build for humans. Picture: A card sent from Taliesin West in 1948/1949: featuring the famous four "organic commandments" (which seem not so much to be commands unless you take each to be a principle of active design).
I was so busy every day last week with the TEI Conference in Kraków @TEIConsortium #tei2025 that I am only posting highlights now after we concluded! I have an odd (ODD!) take on TEI that we prove our work robust as we transform and translate it across models and paradigms—as so much of this splendid conference demonstrated! Thanks to Jan Rybicki, @turska , + organizers at Jagiellonian University for a marvelous conference experience!

Delighted to be learning from Javier Cha (opening keynote at #DH2025) about the RAG modeling we’re exploring now! I love how he tracks the progress from Cytoscape network viz to neo4j graph modeling in small systems for humanities data!
Dining and coding and teaching (did I get that in the wrong order?) at DHSI in Montreal has been lots of fun this week!

Happy Halloween from the Mad Hatter, the Wicked Witch of the Web, and our friend the Creature whose brains we serve…
What is our responsibility as digital humanists at work in our institutions in these times when our institutions compromise and oppose our efforts to critique the technology we live and work with? Shannon Mattern raises this challenge to us at #dh2024 closing keynote.
