the "reddit" part isn't a put-down either it's just that 90% of reddit hobby subs (other than for gaming) are this kind of hobby
this isn't a put down if you wanna spend your time and money that way it's fine. i just think it's an interesting phenomenon. also people will sometimes try to justify this kind of thing in their own heads by lying to themselves about how much utility they get out of the thing they own. like if you just like owning the thing that's fine
there's a certain kind of hobby i like to call "reddit hobbies" where the hobby doesn't involve doing anything or developing any skill but just involves owning certain things. like when guys are really into owning particular pens or make PC battlestations or shit like that
