this is why i'm desperate for any media to give us a character who transitions DURING the story
honestly i think this is one of the reasons people latched onto bridget so hard; even in a goofy dumb fighting game way, she's one of the few characters i've literally ever seen from a mainstream franchise where she transitioned over the course of the franchise
i will almost always be more compelled by trans readings of characters where the reading is "this character would transition if given the opportunity but the story won't allow it, i read this character who in text is male as transfem" then like "oh i think this character transitioned way before the story began"
the second one just... bores me a lot of the time? like oh boy if we ignore half of canon and the story's themes and everything we can pretend this character has an irrelevant history
"but sara the emotionally immature and lowkey abusive mother figure can be a turn on in a safe kink environment"
if i burn these cookies even slightly I'll have an emotional breakdown
