speaking of platforms: i want to hear takes about #nostr
given how sloppy the spec is, i'm kind of shocked how functional it is. but the design pretty much creates discoverability issues from the get-go because the network is partitioned by default, and it's slow as hell
also it's architectured in a way that puts a bonkers amount of load on the client: i scrolled through my feed for 5-10m and my browser made over like 300 connections to scores of different domains
unfortunately it seems like they've fallen into a pay-to-win model where most relay servers are unreliable and full of spam and noise, so people end up paying to publish posts on paid relay servers. it would be one thing for this to be a manner of clout chasing, but the paid relays also tend to be the most functional ones, which encourages non-paying users to still read from paid relays because they're actually working
i also didn't mention... the content there was... lacking. and by that i mean 99% was spam or deluded cryptobros obsessing over the next dip they're gonna buy
