i like technical discussions and i love respectful discourse. my goal is to be as kind as possible as often as feasible and i appreciate whenever someone tells me i'm falling short. disagreement != enmity.

speaking of platforms: i want to hear takes about #nostr

given how sloppy the spec is, i'm kind of shocked how functional it is. but the design pretty much creates discoverability issues from the get-go because the network is partitioned by default, and it's slow as hell

also it's architectured in a way that puts a bonkers amount of load on the client: i scrolled through my feed for 5-10m and my browser made over like 300 connections to scores of different domains

unfortunately it seems like they've fallen into a pay-to-win model where most relay servers are unreliable and full of spam and noise, so people end up paying to publish posts on paid relay servers. it would be one thing for this to be a manner of clout chasing, but the paid relays also tend to be the most functional ones, which encourages non-paying users to still read from paid relays because they're actually working

i also didn't mention... the content there was... lacking. and by that i mean 99% was spam or deluded cryptobros obsessing over the next dip they're gonna buy

can bluesky's AT protocol talk to activitypub? maybe with a shim of some kind? too many apps ughhhh

i don't remember taking E&M in college but i got a C. idk how electricity works but one time i learned what a flip-flop is

how hard would it be for me to learn enough to put this bad boy together? naively i would think it's not hard because i could assemble things without understanding, but the note about the 555 circuit being "tricky" (and therefore requiring some debug) scares me

Ultrasonic Sound Gun (Parametric Speaker)

Ultrasonic Sound Gun (Parametric Speaker): For this project I built a gun that shoots out a narrow beam of ultrasonic audio. The sound can only be heard by people inside the narrow beam, or through a nearby source when the audio gets demodulated. I was inspired to build this project after wa…
